The interstate Russian-Kazakh agreement on military cooperation, which is planned to be signed today, fully meets the achieved level of integration of the two countries in the field of security. This was stated by Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu at talks with the head of the military department of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant General Nurlan Yermekbayev.

'I suggest that we start discussing topical issues of cooperation, and then sign a number of documents, the main of which is the interstate agreement on military cooperation. Its provisions fully meet modern conditions and the achieved level of integration in the field of security. Kazakhstan is one of the few, if not the only country with which we have such broad military cooperation and such a deep and comprehensive agreement,' said the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation.

Sergey Shoigu noted that he was sincerely glad to meet with his Kazakh counterpart and discuss topical issues of cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense.

'The Republic of Kazakhstan is Russia's main strategic ally and closest partner. Despite the pandemic, military cooperation between our countries is steadily developing. It is organized in accordance with the medium - term program of bilateral strategic partnership in the military field for 2019-2021,' the head of the Russian military Department said. - Today we will sign a cooperation plan for the next year, which will specify the procedure for further cooperation. We will focus on joint operational and combat training activities, including within the framework of the multilateral formats of the CSTO, the CIS and the SCO, as well as the development of a unified regional air defense system.'

Sergey Shoigu noted that Kazakhstan has established the functioning of test sites of the Russian Defence Ministry, and issues of transit of Russian military cargo through the territory of the Republic are being resolved in a simplified manner. The Russian Defence Minister also expressed gratitude to the Kazakh side for this, saying that he highly appreciates the level of bilateral military-technical cooperation.

'The volume of exports of Russian military products to Kazakhstan is constantly growing,' said General of the Army Sergei Shoigu. - The sphere of military education is of great importance. To date, 731 Kazakh servicemen are studying at Russian military universities free of charge.'

In turn, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant General Nurlan Yermekbayev, noted that relations between Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation in all spheres, including in the military field, are developing very dynamically.

We are always open for discussion and constructive solutions to any issues. We actively participate not only in the bilateral format of interaction, but also in various international organizations. This includes the CSTO, the SCO, and the CIS,' Nurlan Yermekbayev said.

He also added that the term of the current official visit of the Russian Defence Minister is very short, and expressed readiness to receive Sergei Shoigu on a separate visit in any format.

'Let it be a working, unofficial or private visit. And not only as the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, but also as the president of the Russian geographical society, so that we can show you the sights of our country,' Nurlan Yermekbayev said.
