On April 18, 2022, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa over the severe floods that hit South Africa.

Xi Jinping said, continuous heavy rains in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal Province have led to a severe flood disaster, causing heavy casualties and serious property losses. On behalf of the Chinese government and people as well as in my own name, I would like to express deep condolences to the victims of the disaster and extend sincere sympathies to the bereaved families, the injured and the people in the disaster areas.
