ELORA, Tenn., May 19, 2022 - State and local leaders joined executives from NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Meta to celebrate the commissioning of the state's newest large-scale solar energy project - the Elora Solar Energy Center.

"This solar energy project will generate low-cost, homegrown energy and provide millions of dollars in additional tax revenue to Lincoln County over the life of the project," said Stuart McCurdy, vice president of development at NextEra Energy Resources, the world's largest generator of wind and solar energy. "We are pleased to work with TVA and Meta to bring online Tennessee's newest solar energy center."

The Elora Solar Energy Center is located in the town of Elora and will generate up to 150 megawatts of solar energy. Construction lasted 17 months and generated a significant economic boost to Lincoln County and the state, creating approximately 250 construction jobs and stimulating the purchase of regional goods and services from local vendors. Local utility partner, Fayetteville Public Utilities, will provide electric service to auxiliary systems to support the solar facility.

Tennessee's newest solar energy project features more than 500,000 photovoltaic solar panels that convert the sun's energy into electricity. A subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources built, owns and will operate the project.

"TVA is building a greener future that leaves no one behind in the new clean energy economy," said Doug Perry, TVA senior vice president, commercial energy solutions. "This public-private relationship demonstrates the strength of TVA's community energy model to attract high-quality jobs into the communities we serve while helping businesses meet their sustainability goal."

Since 2018, TVA has attracted nearly $3 billion in investment and procured more than 2,800 megawatts of solar to promote economic development across seven Southeast states.

Since 2020, Meta's global operations have been supported by 100% renewable energy. The clean energy from the Elora Solar Energy Center will support Meta's regional data centers.

"We appreciate the collaboration with NextEra Energy Resources and TVA that is allowing us to bring this new solar energy to the grid in support of our operations," said Bryce Dalley, head of energy supply at Meta. "At Meta, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact and investing in communities where we are located. Projects like this one help us to continue to meet our 100% renewable energy goal while bringing jobs and investments to Tennessee."

Over the next 20 years, the Elora Solar Energy Center is expected to generate millions in additional revenue for Lincoln County.
