Mayor Bottoms' Executive Order Regarding Department of Public Works Hiring Incentive Receives Support from City Council

ATLANTA- An important item from Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms' legislative agenda was approved during Atlanta City Council's Monday meeting.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Public Works (DPW) is experiencing a critical challenge related to solid waste services staffing which is impacting key services to residents. The City of Atlanta, solid waste collections and special operations are currently operating at a seventy-nine percent (79%) staffing level, coupled with a daily attendance rate of less than seventy-five percent (75%).

To address this need, a resolution to ratify Mayor Bottoms' Executive Order authorizing a one-time hiring incentive in an amount not to exceed $500 for each employee hired by the DPW between July 30 to September 30, 2021 for positions of environmental services worker and solid waste operator moved forward.

The hiring incentive will be payable in Fiscal Year 2022 from DPW's current personnel budget.
