In the Astrakhan region, on the basis of the center for combat training and combat use of anti-aircraft missile forces (Ashuluk range), crews of the anti-aircraft missile regiment of the Leningrad formation of the air force and air defense of the Western Military District conducted combat launches of anti-aircraft guided missiles at training air targets.

As part of a tactical live-fire exercise, combat crews of anti-aircraft missile divisions and the S-400 'Triumph' command post worked out the tasks of repelling a massive missile air strike under the influence of active radio interference using a conditional launch of anti-aircraft guided missiles of the air 'enemy'. Front-line MiG-29SMT fighters, electronic warfare aircraft and Mi-8AMTSh helicopters were involved in checking the regiment's on-duty forces with control aircraft.

The main focus of the exercise was on conducting anti-aircraft combat with live launches of anti-aircraft guided missiles. In the air raid, target missiles were used, simulating modern and promising means of air attack with various altitude and speed characteristics.

'All the air targets assigned to the regiment were successfully destroyed,' said Colonel Alexander Shkanov, acting commander of the air defense unit of the Leningrad air force and air defense. 'The regiment once again confirmed the high level of combat training and coordination of crews,' he added.

In addition, units of the anti-aircraft missile regiment took up combat duty for air defense in the new position area, marched to temporary duty positions, overcame areas of 'infected' terrain, and carried out a set of measures for degassing and masking military equipment.

In addition, during the exercise, combat crews passed theoretical tests on technical, tactical and missile-shooting training. At the racetrack of the ground, the drivers-mechanics of launchers and loading vehicles performed a set of exercises on driving multi-axis chassis for a while. The organization of direct cover and ground defense during the attack of conditional sabotage groups of the 'enemy' on the duty positions of the regiment was also checked.

Earlier, the anti-aircraft missile regiment of the formation made a combined march from the Pskov region to the duty positions of the ground with a length of more than 2000 km. Relocation to a permanent deployment point is scheduled for early September.
