A Sale care home supported a regional veterans' support group.

Care UK's Oakfield Croft, on Oakfield, has donated £500 to Trafford Veterans.

The group was formed in 2015 by two armed forces veterans with the aim of providing support to other veterans from Greater Manchester and help them transition from the military back into their local community.

The group's activities include hosting regular events to encourage veterans to try new hobbies such as football and gardening, and organising trips across the UK, as well as providing volunteering opportunities for local people.

The funds will go towards providing kit and equipment to help run our peer support activities.

Claire Wright, Co-founder at Trafford Veterans, said: "We're really grateful to receive funds from the Care UK team at Oakfield Croft. This kind donation will go a long way in ensuring we're able to continue supporting local veterans and give them an opportunity to thrive in the Trafford community.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to the Care UK team for their support - we're especially looking forward to visiting the home and organising joint events or activities with the residents once restrictions allow."

Daniel Cole, Home Manager at Oakfield Croft, said: "We understand the vital support Trafford Veterans provides for veterans of all ages in our community, and we're thrilled to be able to help to ensure they continue their fantastic work.

"We have a number of veterans here at Oakfield Croft, so this truly is a cause that is close to our hearts. We are thrilled to be marking the start of a great relationship between Oakfield Croft and Trafford Veterans with a donation to support their continued work in the community.

"We look forwarding to inviting them to the home once we're able."

Oakfield Croft has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence. The new care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities, as well as facilities like a cinema, coffee shop and hair salon.
