There's ANOTHER new scam going around. An 'agent' from the Social Security Office calls to tell you that your SSN has been compromised in another state and they are conducting a criminal investigation against you. They must freeze your accounts while they conduct their investigation but you can prevent your accounts from closing by sending the agent cash or gift cards or they tell you to send money/gift cards to 'take care of' the issue. The caller tells you not to tell anyone and will threaten you with arrest by law enforcement if you don't send the money. They may call multiple times over a period of time with different phone numbers and you may even be transferred to a an 'investigator' who will use the same pressure tactics as the agent.
Some victims will be frauded out of thousands of dollars.
Government agencies do not call to solicit payment via gift cards or cash over the phone. HANG UP, THIS IS A SCAM. Please share this message with those who may be susceptible to becoming a victim of fraud.
