'Fix a Leak Week' Empowers Customers to Reduce Water Waste

March 28, 2024-During the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 16th Annual Fix a Leak Week, March 18-22, Rowland Water District (RWD) highlighted tips for finding and addressing dripping water in and around homes and businesses. Though RWD provides conservation resources all year, this is an important time of year to focus on leaks as a major contributor to water misuse.

RWD distributed material in their lobby, online and through social media, increasing awareness of the importance of conserving. Resources included a pocket guide, rebate program and website full of information. To download RWD's pocket guide, visit https://bit.ly/4bTPtzv.

"Rowland Water District has long been committed to promoting ways to save water," RWD General Manager Tom Coleman said. "We protect every drop of water and encourage our customers to do the same with an entire website dedicated to the effort at yourwaterfootprint.org. This Fix a Leak Week, we remind our community to seek out leaks at every turn."

RWD also collaborates with Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, securing customer rebates for high-efficiency clothes washers, toilets, weather-based irrigation controllers, turf removal and more. Customers are encouraged to apply at SoCalWaterSmart.com for any residential rebates.

"Common water leaks around your home include worn toilet flappers, dripping faucets, and leaking showerheads-all of which can be fixed with a little do-it-yourself effort," said EPA Office of Wastewater Management Director Dr. Andrew Sawyers. "The average household's leaks can account for nearly 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year-the amount of water needed to wash 300 loads of laundry-and could be adding as much as 10% to your water bill."
