The 56th Annual Alumni Association Awards Dinner takes place Saturday, December 2, in the Amelia Brown Frazier Convocation Hall on Bellarmine University's campus. The honorees are:
Alumnus of the Year: Ralph Gronefeld '81
National leader in the healthcare sector. Recently retired President & CEO of ResCare, a $2 billion organization founded and headquartered in Louisville that is now the nation's leading private provider of services to people with disabilities and leading privately-owned home care company.
Scarlet & Silver Society Inductee: Jim Vargo '82
Bellarmine cross country and track coach since 2000, three-time USA Paralympic coach. Assisted in carrying the torch for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Norway and the 1996 Paralympics in Atlanta. Former head track and field coach for the USA Paralympic Team and former head track and field coach of the US Association of Blind Athletes.
Monsignor Horrigan Distinguished Service Award: Dr. Mary Pike '80
Longtime faculty member Dr. Mary Pike has been instrumental in the growth of the
Donna and Allan Lansing School of Nursing and Clinical Sciences and the university's interdisciplinary course program. She was the first to create domestic and international clinical learning opportunities for nursing students and coordinated the Lansing School Artist in Residence program for many years.Gallery of Distinguished Graduates:
Dr. Marvin Hanka '64
Former medical director at St. Anthony and Caritas; now retired. Named one of America's Top Doctors over his 37-year career while being focused on social justice. Was the Medical Director of St. Anthony's emergency room and the Caritas Westside Medical Center. Member of the DeSales High School Hall of Honors.
Mike Moll '79
Senior vice president at PNC Bank; director of client and community relations for Kentucky and Tennessee operations. Has held leadership positions with many area nonprofits, including chairman of the board of the Leadership Louisville Center, Louisville Sports Commission and Brightside. Former member of the Bellarmine Board of Overseers. Named one of Business First's Forty Under 40.
Accounting Alumna of the Year: Cynthia H. Zipperle '84
