The Gallery at Cherry Hill Presents New Collaborative Exhibit “Humans & Monsters”

The Village Theater at Cherry Hill welcomes the featured works of artists Stu Rase and Bruce Worden in a collaborative exhibit, entitled "Humans & Monsters", in The Gallery at Cherry Hill now through July 26, 2022. A closing art reception will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 6 - 8 p.m, which is free and open to the public.

Featured works by Bruce Worden and Stu Rase include depictions of humans and monsters, creating the line between the hideous and the beautiful. In this collaborative exhibit, viewers are presented with a wide variety of pieces that allow them to create their own unique interpretations.

Hailing from Michigan, Bruce Worden is based in Ann Arbor where he lives with his wife, son, and record collection. Worden's "Humans" on display are from the shopper's unknown, where he collected dropped shopping lists found on the ground and drew the people he imagined wrote them. His "Monsters" are original gouache illustrations from Grzimek's Encyclopedia of Animal Life, a publication for which Worden painted over 300 species' identification and behavior illustrations.

Stu Rase is a high school teacher, content creator, and artist. He is the author and artist of various comics and graphic novels. Before becoming a teacher, Rase performed all over the country as an improvisational comedian. However, he had to put his dreams on hold, as he had started his career in teaching, had two kids, and spent most of his time making art that brings humanity to the inhuman. Stu Rase's featured work explores the relationship between the hideous and the beautiful. With influences as diverse as Erol Otus and Brad Neely, the intent is to bring a lens to the animals and monsters that have been reviled. Ever since he was a teenager, Rase has been fascinated by the strange line humans have drawn when deciding which creatures are considered worthy of love and which are not. Especially with the animals we detest being ones who have learned to live alongside us, such as pigeons, rats, etc. Through a series of various mediums, there is an exploration of charm and delight found in the monsters, animals, and people society often hold in disdain.

This art exhibit at The Gallery at Cherry Hill is free and open to the public during gallery hours: Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 4 - 8 p.m.; during all public performances; or by special appointment arranged via email to [email protected].
