Angela Self Recognized for Impact on the Planning Profession

City of Garland Planning Administrator Angela Self has achieved the prestigious title of American Institute of Certified Planners Fellow for her outstanding achievements in urban planning.

Fellowship is granted to planners who have achieved certification through the American Planning Association's professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, and have achieved excellence in professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, public and community service, and leadership. Fellows are selected after a thorough review process, ensuring the nominee has had a positive, long-lasting impact on the planning profession.

Self is the Planning Administrator for the City of Garland and has more than 25 years of planning experience. She has worked for urban and suburban communities focusing on underserved communities impacted by social, economic and environmental inequalities.

Self, one of 33 inductees into this year's College of Fellows, was selected by the College of Fellows and FAICP Selection Committees to serve as the class speaker. Her remarks highlighted the urgency and importance of the planning profession. Inductions are held biennially.

"Members who have earned the FAICP designation are the true leaders of the planning profession," said Karen Wolf, AICP President. "Their contributions and impacts to the profession serve as inspiration for future generations of planners of how to best serve our communities."
