By one sixth more used passenger car registrations in first half of 2021

Vienna, 2021-07-15 - In the first half of 2021, 451 714 used passenger carswere registered, 17.1% more than in the same period of the previous year, as Statistics Austria reports. Compared to the corresponding pre-crisis period of 2019, the increase was 3.6%. In January and June a decrease (-19.5% and -7.0%) was observed, while used passenger car registrations developed positively- in February (+6.2%), March (+131.7%), April (+58.3%) and May (+2.1%).

Compared to the first half of 2020, increases were recorded in diesel-driven passenger cars(share: 58.6%; +15.5%) and petrol-driven passenger cars(incl. flex-fuel; share: 37.3%; +13.5%). Registrations of used passenger cars with alternative drivesystems accounted for 4.1% of total registrations of used passenger cars and increased by 126.8%.

All of the top 10 passenger cars recorded increases in the number of used registrations: Seat +25.2%, BMW and Mercedes each +24.3%, Skoda +17.7%, VW +17.3%, Audi +16.8%, Ford +16.1%, Peugeot +12.3%, Renault +8.6% and Opel +7.8%.

From January to June 2021, 581 249 used motor vehicleswere registered, 17.7% more than in the same period of the previous year and 6.5% more than in the first half of 2019.

Among commercial vehicles, the registrations of used lorries category (cat.) N1 (+25.9%), tractors used for agriculture and forestry (+22.2%), articulated lorries (+15.4%), lorries cat. N2 (+8.8%) and lorries cat. N3 (+5.1%) developed positively.

In regard to usedtwo-wheelers, more motorcycles (+18.1%) and scooters (15.3%) were registered compared to the first half of 2020.

VVO, in turn, receives data by the insurances' registrations offices, responsible for registrations, de-registrations and rectifications of motor vehicles and trailers.
Within motor vehicle statistics, all motor vehicles, once nationally or internationally registered, are levied, irrespective of the registration's duration.
