Statement by Foreign Minister Huitfeldt on the Russian escalation

'This is a serious escalation on the part of Russia, and we fear it will lead to further conflict and destruction', Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt said after president Putin calls up military reservists for war in Ukraine.

'The winter ahead will be very difficult. Putin is seeking to sow political division and create a recession in Europe. We must not let him succeed. The European and allied response to Russia's unprovoked war has been resolute and unified, and our cooperation has grown stronger. Ukraine will need assistance for many years to come, and Norway stands ready to provide substantial and long-term support', the Minister said.
