TxDOT Kicks Off Mopac Intersection Construction Project

AUSTIN - Today, TxDOT kicked off the MoPac Intersections project with a Meet the Contractor event. More than 50 people showed up to learn more about the improvements and what to expect during construction.

The MoPac Intersections project will enhance safety for all modes of travel, decrease wait times at the intersections, decrease overall travel time, and improve left-turning movements.

Improvements include

  • Extending the MoPac mainlanes underneath the Slaughter Lane and La Crosse Avenue intersections (two lanes in each direction)
  • Constructing a diverging diamond intersection at MoPac and Slaughter Lane
  • Making intersection improvements at MoPac and La Crosse Avenue
  • Improving pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, including building a 10-foot shared-use path on the west side of MoPac from Slaughter Lane to La Crosse Avenue

'It took a lot of hard work to get to where we are today, and we are looking forward to beginning work on these much-needed improvements,' said Terry McCoy, TxDOT Austin district engineer. 'We're happy to have our contractor on board to help us build the project as safely as possible.'

Construction on the $53.5 million project begins in January 2018 and is expected to be complete in early 2021, weather permitting. The contractor for the project is Webber LLC.
