Internal Medicine residents organize golf tournament to benefit Bethesda Mission in Harrisburg

The Department of Medicine 's Internal Medicine residents hosted the First Annual GIM Charity Golf Tournament on Sept. 4 at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course to benefit Harrisburg's Bethesda Mission. Thanks to an impressive turnout, residents were able to raise $2,934 for the Bethesda Mission.

The department came together in droves for this important cause. A total of 15 total teams participated, comprising friends and family from the divisions of cardiology, pulmonary and critical care medicine, infectious diseases, gastroenterology and hepatology, hematology and oncology, general surgery, and internal medicine residents. Faculty members and attendings sponsored teams during the tournament and also sponsored holes on the golf course. The department thanks its team sponsors as well as Drs. Alia Chisty, Fahad Khalid, Brian McGillen, Navya Voleti and family, Ted Bollard, Thomas Ma, Janette Foster and the 2022-23 Internal Medicine Chiefs for sponsoring holes throughout the course. Dr. Audrey Thorp and her team, Hit Bombs, came away victorious with a score of -21.

This event was such a huge success that the internal medicine residents are already planning the second annual charity golf tournament for Fall 2022. The department hopes that this year's event was the start of an annual golf event to support those who need help the most.

Dr. Thomas Ma, chair of the department, noted that the internal medicine residents 'did an absolutely phenomenal job coordinating this tournament.'

'We are proud of your dedication to the community and to our missions - your generosity, philanthropy and thoughtfulness are so inspiring,' he said. 'Special thanks to Kayla Hartz, Kara Dijoseph, Audrey Thorp, Rachel White and Navya Voleti for organizing this excellent event. We hope to see even more teams on the green next year.'
