Join Savage Oakes in celebrating Maine Open Winery Day - 9/11

Posted September 09, 2021

Join us this Saturday, September 11, from 11am to 4 pm, at Savage Oakes Vineyard & Winery for a day of talks and demonstrations, in celebration of Maine Open Winery Day. See what is involved in growing grapes in Maine and making wine from cold hardy, hybrid varieties not well known to most people. Don't worry if you miss a demonstration, the winemaker will be around all day to answer questions.

We will be wine tasting all day and you can roam the grounds. Wine flights, Mini-flights, glasses of wine, wine cocktails, wine slushies, cheese boards and crackers will be available. And, we'll be offering the last of the wine slushies for 2021! As the summer winds to an end we will be packing away our slush machine, but not before one final weekend. For Open Winery Day, September 11th, we will be serving up the last of the slushes. *Plus, in celebration of this special day, we will be adding an extra 'shot' of wine at no extra charge.

Schedule:

11 a.m. - Vineyard Tour and Talk. Learn about Maine viticulture including grape varietals and the equipment used in maintaining the vineyard. Elmer will be in the vineyard, giving talks and answering questions.

1 p.m. - Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms. David Spahr, author of Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms of New England and Eastern Canada will give a talk and PowerPoint show on finding the best edible mushrooms, tools and equipment, and safety.

3 p.m. - Winery Talk. Our winery doors will be open and the opportunity to ask the winemaker questions about the challenges of making wine with hybrid grapes.

Statewide, on September 11th, wineries across the state will be hosting tastings, tours, and special events to celebrate Maine Open Winery Day. It's an opportunity for Maine's winemakers to showcase their wineries and for customers to learn more. FMI, visit
