Meeting of the Minister of National Defense with the Belgian counterpart

The Minister of National Defense, Vasile Dîncu, met on Tuesday, June 7, in Cincu, with the Belgian Minister of Defense, Ludivine Dedonder.

During their visit to Cincu range, the two ministers met with the Romanian and Belgian soldiers that are part of the NATO Battle Group in Romania.

During the talks, the two officials addressed current issues on the bilateral agenda and NATO in the run-up to the next ministerial meeting, scheduled for June 16, and the upcoming NATO Summit in Madrid, focusing on security developments in the Black Sea region.

The Romanian Minister of Defense underlined that the developments in the Ukrainian theater of war and its potential implications on the security of the allies determine the urgency of the operationalization process of the Battle Groups, including the one in Romania.

In this context, the Romanian official expressed appreciation for Belgium's participation in the establishment of the Allied Combat Group in Romania, under French command, as a clear proof of the Alliance's unity and solidarity, but also for Belgium's contribution to implement measures in order to strengthen NATO's Eastern flank.

The Romanian official expressed the belief that the Cincu Joint Training Center is the perfect location for hosting the Battle Group, providing the right environment for multinational training, with relevant advantages in terms of increasing interoperability.

During the talks, the Romanian Minister of Defense appreciated the historic decisions and unprecedented measures taken at EU level - evidence of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, European unity and Euro-Atlantic - and highlighted the importance of supporting Moldova and Georgia in their European path.

Minister Vasile Dîncu also emphasised the effectiveness of the humanitarian hub in Suceava for streamlining the humanitarian assistance provided to Ukrainian citizens and pointed out the measures taken by Romania in support of Ukraine.
