20th Annual Bellingham Human Rights Film Festival begins Feb. 20, with many films screened on campus

Since 2000, the Bellingham Human Rights Film Festival has screened hundreds of inspirational films about ordinary people advocating for rights, including to live peaceably and for a healthy planet.

The 2020 festival highlights 30 inspirational films screened Feb. 20-29, most of them evenings or weekends at Fairhaven College Auditorium. The BHRFF is co-sponsored by Huxley College, Department of Anthropology, and AS clubs that include Amnesty International, Political Science, Anthropology, Native American Student Union, Blue Group, and Students for Palestinian Equal Rights. Special opening and closing nights are at the Pickford Film Festival, and other screenings are held at venues throughout our community.

Themes for 2020 include efforts to sustain the health of the Salish Sea, activism of young people and indigenous communities, humane migration, and exemplary efforts to preserve democracy.

All films are free, and most are followed by facilitated discussion with people affiliated with the film or knowledgeable about its issues.
