Senior Director of Environmental Health & Engineering recruitment

ANTHC is currently recruiting for our Senior Director of Environmental Health & Engineering. This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction to our division of environmental health & engineering (DEHE) teams who work to advance statewide healthy homes and communities programs, projects, and initiatives serving the Alaska Native population. Representative duties:

  • Provides executive-level leadership for all engineering and environmental health programs carried out within the division. Understands current and long-range ANTHC organizational plans, and aligns program strategies, goals, action plans, and priorities. Drives performance by linking divisional objectives to ANTHC goals and values. Assures effective communication of issues and strategies between DEHE and ANTHC core management and leadership. Collaborates and builds effective relationships with stakeholders across all departments, ANTHC, and partner organizations across the state. Addresses concerns raised by external stakeholders, cross-divisional leadership, and internal staff. Exercises independent judgment within broad policy guidelines to carry out programs.
  • Leads motivate and develop staff in assigned operations areas. Counsels, trains, and coaches leadership and management staff. Builds a shared commitment to improving business performance, and develops both individual and team capabilities. Communicates a shared vision, energizes and empowers staff. Brings a collaborative, team-oriented presence to the organization. Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for assigned staff; assigns work activities, projects, and programs; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; and meets with staff to identify and resolve problems. Effectively addresses personnel issues in order to promote a productive and healthy work environment.
  • Develops the annual divisional budget and long-range planning based on grants, project portfolio, and program funding and obligations. Manages resource allocations and budgets across departments. Manages divisional performance and productivity. Develops divisional guidelines and procedures, procedures, and work standards. Assures the efficient operations and sound fiscal practices required to meet objectives through effective planning, staff management, and resource allocation.
  • Monitors and reviews regional environmental health trends, advocates for resources, and recommends operational improvements. Establishes positive relationships with Tribes and regional organizations and state and federal agencies. Advises, coordinates, and serves on committees, and other groups advancing programs within environmental health and engineering. Assures compliance with state and federal regulations and accreditations. Provides education and advocacy to legislative and executive branches of State and federal government. Educates executive management, customers, and the general public through meetings, presentations, and public media.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
