On October 16, the State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Masahiro Ishii, visited the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
The State Minister was given a good look at contaminated water countermeasures and decommissioning efforts underway from high ground overlooking Units 1~4. The State Minister Ishii was also given a tour of additional multi-nuclide removal equipment (ALPS) used to purify contaminated water and briefed on the characteristics of ALPS water with showing a sample bottle of such water.
During the tour, State Minister Ishii enthusiastically asked many questions about removing fuel from spent fuel pools, retrieving fuel debris, and about radioactive substances in general.
We will continue to move steadily and safely forward with the long-term decommissioning process with the understanding and cooperation of society.
