Oregon Tech student awarded national scholarship for vascular ultrasound

Ashley Christine Melancon, a Vascular Technology student at Oregon Tech, has been selected as a recipient of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) Anne Jones Educational Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to students in accredited vascular ultrasound schools in the United States; Melancon is the only grand prize recipient.

"Receiving this scholarship is an incredible honor. I feel humbled to have been selected by my professional organization and am truly grateful for the financial support," Melancon said. "I could not have done this without my professors, whose extensive knowledge, dedication, and mentorship have provided me with the best foundation to begin my vascular ultrasound career."

Originally from Tigard, Ore., Melancon is on track to graduate in 2025 with a bachelor's degree in Vascular Technology. She chose a career in vascular technology because she is interested in the cardiovascular system and the science of blood flow.

"I love that ultrasound technology is safe, noninvasive, and useful for various diagnostic and interventional applications," Melancon said. "Oregon Tech's medical imaging programs have an excellent reputation because our professors take a personal interest in our success and do an outstanding job preparing us for our externship and future careers."

The Anne Jones Educational Scholarship was established in 2005 and was named after Anne Jones in recognition of her leadership as former SVU President and her commitment to quality education. Annually, the Anne Jones Educational Scholarship Fund provides four qualified students in accredited vascular ultrasound schools with funds for their vascular ultrasound education and encourages them to pursue careers in the field.
