Portugal will host the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction from 24 to 26 November. The event will be held in Matosinhos together with the European Union, the United Nations, the Council of Europe and all the countries that wish to join.
At the press conference to announce the forum in Lisbon, the Secretary of State for Internal Affairs, Patrícia Gaspar, noted that the initiative will focus "mostly on prevention", an area Portugal has been working on. The Secretary of State offered as an example the recent approval of a more preventive civil protection National Strategy which "is perfectly aligned with what's being developed at both the EU and UN level"
Patrícia Gaspar also said that during the meeting in Matosinhos, "the use of the Sendai Framework for disaster risk reduction" will be assessed, and Covid-19 will be addressed, where we will try to "identify best practice, mostly through the exchange of experiences between the different countries", as well as discussing new ways of acting.
The Secretary of State also claimed that the goal of the Forum is "to contribute fundamentally to the catastrophe risk reduction roadmap to be presented in Bali, Indonesia, in 2022 at the next global meeting on this subject".
