On Sunday June 18th, 2017 at approximately 2:30 pm Park Ridge Police responded to the 100 S. Block of Euclid for a disturbance involving two adult men at the Starbuck's Coffee Shop. Upon arrival, Officers were met by a Cook County Sheriff's Department Officer, a male 26 year old from Canoga Park California and a male 28 year old from Glenview Illinois.
Investigation of the incident, which included statements by the two men and independent witnesses determined that the 26 year old male from Canoga Park was verbally abusing the shop staff regarding an order he had placed. The 28 year old from Glenview Illinois, who was near this, intervened and told the 26 year old to stop being a jerk to the staff. A verbal exchange ensued, and the 26 year old from California slapped and punched the 28 year old Glenview man. A further physical altercation between the men began, during which a small pocket knife was produced and opened by the 28 year old from Glenview, when he claimed to be attempting to pull his cell phone out. The California man grabbed the knife by the blade, causing minor injuries to his hand.
The Cook County Sheriff, who was in the area outside the Starbuck's responded to the request of bystanders, separated and detained the two men, as Park Ridge Police were contacted via 911.
Both men were treated by Park Ridge Fire Department Paramedics at the scene for minor injuries and refused further medical treatment.
Both men were not interested in pursuing battery charges at the time Park Ridge Police Officers completed the investigation of the incident.
