FirstHealth Recognized by Healthgrades for Superior Outcomes in Multiple Clinical Specialties

PINEHURST, N.C. -- FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, including its Hoke and Richmond campuses, has been recognized by Healthgrades for superior outcomes in multiple clinical specialties.

Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. Healthgrades recognized Moore Regional Hospital for exceptional care in multiple specialties, including orthopaedics, neurosciences, pulmonary care, gastrointestinal and critical care.

FirstHealth CEO Mickey Foster said the awards reflect an ongoing commitment to high-quality patient care and safety.

"We are wholly committed to providing excellent care and honored to receive these recognitions from Healthgrades," he said. "Even as the COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges, our employees and medical staff continue to focus on quality, excellence and safety. We often speak of our core purpose, and this honor reinforces that it is at the center of everything we do. We are honored to care for people across the Sandhills."

Moore Regional Hospital received the following recognition:

  • Orthopaedics
    • Five-Star Recipient for Total Knee Replacement
    • Five-Star Recipient for Hip Fracture Treatment
  • Neurosciences
    • Recipient of the Healthgrades Stroke Care Excellence Award
    • Named Among Top 10% in the Nation for Treatment of Stroke
    • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Stroke

    • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia
  • Gastrointestinal
    • Five-Star Recipient for Colorectal Surgeries
    • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of GI Bleed
  • Critical Care
    • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Respiratory Failure

Jenifir Bruno, M.D., FirstHealth's Chief Medical Officer, said the recognitions from Healthgrades reflect the team-first approach across the FirstHealth system.

"These recognitions would not be possible without the expertise of all our amazing medical staff, including our physician partners at Pinehurst Medical Clinic and Pinehurst Surgical Clinic, as well as our top-notch nursing staff," she said. "In addition, our laboratory, environmental services, food and nutrition, imaging and many other departments all work together to deliver the best experience possible to our patients and families."

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 31 common conditions and procedures and evaluated outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 16 states.

Healthgrades recognizes a hospital's quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected).

The awards for clinical achievements in orthopaedics, neurosciences, pulmonary, gastrointestinal and critical care come on the heels of two additional quality distinctions Moore Regional Hospital earned earlier this year: the Healthgrades 2021 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ and the Healthgrades 2021 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™

Moore Regional was one of only four hospitals in North Carolina to achieve both awards for 2021. Additionally, Moore Regional was the only hospital in the state to achieve the Outstanding Patient Experience Award for 14 years in a row.
