Today, Governor John Bel Edwards has selected Mr. Veneeth Iyengar to serve as the first Executive Director of Broadband Development and Connectivity for the state of Louisiana.
In this role, he will serve as the lead coordinator for the state's efforts to addressing the challenges around broadband accessibility and affordability. Iyengar previously served as Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for Mayor-President of Baton Rouge, Sharon Weston Broome. He will begin his role on March 29.
'Veneeth has clearly demonstrated that his approach to building highly innovative public private partnerships that has helped change the economic trajectory of Baton Rouge for years to come. His unique and entrepreneurial balance of private and public sector skills will serve as an asset in helping build this office and address how we can address the broadband needs of all Louisianans,' Gov. Edwards said. 'What we have realized through this pandemic is that increasing Broadband Accessibility and making it affordable is extremely critical to addressing our most intractable challenges identified by the Resilient Louisiana Commission. Addressing this will take everyone and every sector working together to increase the overall competitiveness of our state.'
Raised in Baton Rouge, Iyengar brings with him robust business and entrepreneurship experience both domestically and internationally having served as a United States Peace Corps volunteer shortly after 9/11, a healthcare executive for Baltimore-based Sage Growth Partners, and as a staff member in the Office of the Honorable Robert Mosbacher Jr, former CEO of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation in Washington, DC. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Finance from the Johns Hopkins University.
As Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Veneeth led the Economic Development efforts for the City/Parish of Baton Rouge in partnership with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber. In this role, he was responsible for executing the Mayor's vision for accelerated job growth resulting in record job numbers created over the last several years.
