Frederick Police Apprehends Suspects Involved in Firearms Discharge

The Frederick Police Department's Patrol officers successfully apprehended two suspects involved in a firearms discharge incident over the weekend.

At approximately 6:14 p.m. on April 14, 2024, officers from the Frederick Police Department responded to a report of a firearm discharge in the area of S. Pendleton Ct., Frederick City. Upon arrival, a witness provided officers with a description of the suspects. The witness observed two Hispanic males come from the area of Hill Street Park towards Pendleton Ct. There was no indication that any individuals, vehicles, or residences were struck by the gunfire.

Officer Haynie, from FPD's Patrol Squad D, was positioned in the area behind Pendleton Ct when he observed two males matching the description provided by the witness. Upon sighting Officer Haynie and a Sheriff's Deputy who was also on scene, the two males fled on foot. The suspect, later identified as Abel Antonio Castillo, 21, of Frederick, was apprehended in the 100 block of Tillman Pl. A handgun, presumed to be tossed by Castillo, was located a short distance away from where Castillo was apprehended. While searching Castillo, officers found two 9mm bullets on his person.

The second suspect, also matching the description provided by a witness, and later identified as Hedbby Abddy Ramirez Maldonado, 22, of Frederick, was observed by additional staging officers in the area of S. Pendleton Ct and W. Thornhill Pl. Ramirez Maldonado also attempted to flee officers on foot. Ramirez Maldonado was subsequently apprehended by FPD and FCSO officers. Ramirez Maldonado has an active warrant through the Frederick Police Department for a failure to appear in court.

Both Castillo and Ramirez Maldonado were transported to Frederick Health Hospital for medical clearance. They were then transported to FCADC for further processing and are being held without bond.
