It was cold, there was snow on the ground and it was the weekend. You wouldn't think that would be the perfect recipe for an event on campus, however, the open house at Millersville University on Saturday, March 24, was an overwhelming success.
'We were delighted to host more than 1,600 visitors to campus last Saturday,' says Brian Hazlett, vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. 'A huge thank you to our faculty, staff and current students who attended and put their best foot forward for our visitors.'
The Open House attracted prospective transfer students, high school sophomores and juniors who are starting to explore college options, as well as high school seniors who are already admitted to Millersville for this fall.
'Open Houses provide an excellent opportunity for prospective students to learn about our diverse array of academic programs, explore opportunities to get involved on campus and experience what it would be like to join the Millersville community,' says Katy Ferrier, director of admissions at Millersville.
Along with a welcome and overview of admissions, the day included a chance to meet the deans, campus activities, an information fair, tours of campus and the residence halls.
Visitor feedback was quite positive ranging from 'This was such a smart idea. Learned a lot,' on the fair itself to 'Great experience. We enjoyed being able to meet the professors. It also provided us an opportunity to hear how the program is run and all the opportunities within the program,' regarding the academic engagement. Those who dined at the Upper Deck commented that there were 'great selections,' and those who toured the residence halls were equally impressed, 'Tour guides for residence halls were very knowledgeable and friendly. The students did a great job all day.'
The future students and their families left happy and pleased, 'We were so impressed with the day overall. The moment we drove onto the campus with students cheering and enthusiastic set us up for great day and left a wonderful impression.' 'Definitely a future student! Loved it!'
The next big event on campus for admissions will be the Admitted Student Expo on Saturday, April 7 from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
