ISU to celebrate spring graduates this weekend
Indiana State University will confer 1,882 degrees at spring commencement ceremonies this weekend at the Hulman Center.
Of those degrees, 1,427 are undergraduate and 455 are graduate - 97 doctoral degrees, 23 educational specialist (EdS) degrees, 324 master's degrees, and 11 graduate certificates.
The graduates are from 41 U.S. states and nine countries. There will be three ceremonies: the graduate commencement ceremony is at 6 p.m. Friday and two undergraduate ceremonies are at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
No tickets are required to attend and there is no guest limit or seating restrictions.
The Saturday morning ceremony will celebrate graduates from ISU's Bayh College of Education, College of Health and Human Services, and College of Technology. The afternoon ceremony will celebrate College of Arts and Sciences and Scott College of Business graduates.
The ceremonies will be livestreamed to allow additional family and friends the opportunity to celebrate with graduates in real-time. Visit the commencement webpage f or the information.
ISU alumna Lucy Billings-Jones is the guest speaker at the graduate ceremony on Friday. She earned two degrees from ISU - a bachelor's degree in criminology and a master's degree in public administration. Billings-Jones is a talent acquisition recruiter for Ernst & Young in Nashville, Tennessee.
On Saturday, Darren Brucken, a medical doctor and Vigo County's health commissioner will speak at the undergraduate ceremonies. Brucken is a 1993 graduate of Indiana State University and has played an essential role in helping his alma mater and other organizations navigate the COVID-19 pandemic during the past two years. He is the director of inpatient medical services for Horizon Health, a hospital located in Paris, Illinois.
Brucken earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Indiana State and graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1997.
Graduating student Christian Hill will speak at the undergraduate commencement ceremonies. A first-generation college student from Gary, Hill is graduating with a degree in finance with a concentration on financial analysis and investment management from the Scott College of Business. After graduating, he plans to pursue a master's degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or African American and African Diaspora Studies.
