A special guest has taken up residence at Hearst Tower for a few days: Fearless Girl.
Commissioned by State Street Global Advisors from artist Kristen Visbal, the original four-foot bronze statue made her debut on Wall Street in March 2017 on International Women's Day.
Now, a replica of the statue is visiting Hearst Tower for a two-day stay-a unique trip for Fearless Girl.
The trip to the Tower began when Hearst Chief Investment Officer Roger Paschke heard State Street Global Advisors speak about Fearless Girl at a financial industry event and wanted to share the story-and the statue-with the Hearst community.
On Monday, HearstLab, Hearst's group of early-stage, women-led media, information and services startups, held a lunch to welcome Fearless Girl to the Tower.
'I am delighted to introduce to you my new friend Fearless,' HearstLab Chairwoman and Hearst Chief Legal Officer Eve Burton said, opening the event. 'She has been on an extraordinary journey and we are honored to welcome her to Hearst Tower and to celebrate what she represents.'
Paschke spoke with Dominica Ribeiro, head of institutional marketing, North America for State Street Global Advisors in front of an audience of HearstLab founders, scouts and friends.
Fearless Girl was originally intended to be a temporary installation in New York to highlight the importance of corporate gender diversity. But within the first few hours of her appearance, it was clear they had hit upon something much more lasting.
Two years and more than 10 billion social media impressions later, Fearless Girl has had a profound effect. State Street Global Advisors has a Fearless Girl statue standing tall in their headquarters and now a statue stands outside the London Stock Exchange as well.
'The statue is inspirational and aspirational to us,' Ribeiro said. 'For us, as employees, to come in and to see that every day and know that the company is driving to make change is really empowering.'
'We use the term 'inspiration' a lot,' Paschke said. 'And she is certainly an inspirational kind of celebrity. The impact she has had has gone well beyond Wall Street and the financial industry.'
Fearless Girl will be on display on the third floor of Hearst Tower on Tuesday, September 10 until 3:30 p.m.
