Malaysian Senior Minister for Defence calls on Minister for Defence

Malaysian Senior Minister for Defence Dato' Seri Hishammuddin bin Tun Hussein is in Singapore to attend the 19th Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD). Mr Hishammuddin called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen this afternoon at the Shangri-La Hotel.

During the meeting, both Ministers reaffirmed the long-standing bilateral relationship and cooperation between Singapore and Malaysia. They discussed common security challenges including terrorism and maritime security, as well as ways to maintain and strengthen the bilateral defence ties between the Singapore Armed Forces and the Malaysian Armed Forces. They agreed to continue cooperation through regional multilateral platforms, including the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM), ADMM-Plus and the Five Power Defence Arrangements to enhance regional security and stability.

Singapore and Malaysia's defence establishments interact regularly across a wide range of activities, such as visits and exchanges, exercises and cross-attendance of courses. These interactions strengthen mutual understanding and professional ties between personnel of both defence establishments.

Mr Hishammuddin is in Singapore with a delegation of senior Malaysian officials. As part of his visit, Mr Hishammuddin will also call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean. Mr Hishammuddin also spoke at a plenary session titled "Developing New Forms of Security Cooperation" on 11 June 2022.
