Commencement of an Attractive Regional Development Survey Project utilizing Drones in the Hamadori region of Fukushima prefecture

Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter "Marubeni") was selected to carry out a survey (hereinafter "survey") for attractive regional planning by utilizing drones in 12 towns (*) in Hamadori, Fukushima prefecture. This survey will be carried out together with Dolbix Consulting Inc., a 100% subsidiary of Marubeni, which provides DX strategy support to customers (hereinafter "Dolbix").

This survey, covering 3 items; private-owned forest measurement, road maintenance and disaster prevention, has been entrusted to Marubeni by Reconstruction Agency of Japan. Marubeni in turn has consigned part of the survey to Dolbix and Futaba Inc., a local company in Hamadori.

Reconstruction of Hamadori region has been making progress due to of the end of the evacuation order following the Great East Japan Earthquake, however, a shortage of workers for reconstruction remains a problem. This survey aims to create such environmental value as J-Credit through low cost and technical knowledge by utilizing drones to accurately measure carbon dioxide absorption in private-owned forests. Also, the road maintenance and disaster prevention parts of this survey will aim to contribute to local industry vitalization concepts by mitigating the shortage of workers and reducing the risks involved Utilization of drones will improve the sophistication of local industries and make for smart local government operations, helping to lead to the acceleration of reconstruction in the Hamadori region.

Marubeni is already promoting local industry vitalization having concluded a 5 party cooperation agreement with Namie town and other private companies in July 2021 for the utilization of hydrogen and so on. And, through this survey project, Marubeni further aims to create attractive regions by helping solve social issues in the domestic and local regions.

(*) The 12 towns of Hamadori : Tamura City, Minami Soma City, Kawamata Town, Hirono Town, Naraha Town, Tomioka Town, Kawauchi Village, Okuma Town, Futaba Town, Namie Town, Katsurao Village and Iidate Village
