Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă met with the Minister –delegate for European Affairs of the French Republic

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had on Thursday, January 10, 2019, a meeting with the Minister -delegate for European Affairs of the French Republic, Mrs Nathalie Loiseau. Topics of interest on the agenda of the bilateral relations were addressed during the talks, as well as topical issues on the European agenda, in the context of the Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The close cooperation relations between the two countries in various fields, reflecting the Strategic Partnership between Romania and France were highlighted. The Romanian dignitary mentioned ways of further developing and diversifying the bilateral cooperation, while underlining the demarches aimed at updating the Roadmap to the Strategic Partnership Declaration.

In this context, the Romanian official appreciated that the France -Romania Season, recently successfully inaugurated, provides an excellent opportunity to present in both countries, a multitude of contemporary images of Romania and France respectively, from various fields of activity and to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, science and economy.

Prime Minister also recalled the important Romanian community in France and its rich contribution to deepening bilateral economic relations and to both states' development.

Reminding that Romania holds for the first time the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, the Romanian Prime Minister higlighted that this presidency is exercised in a particular European context, marked by a series of complex processes, such as: the negotiation of the future Multiannual Financial Framework 2021- 2027, the Brexit process, and clarification of the future relations with Great Britain, elections for the European Parliament in May 2019, followed by a new EU institutional cycle, the Sibiu informal Summit, and the reflection process on the future of Europe.

The Romanian dignitary briefly pointed out the priorities of the Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union, built around four pillars/ large action directions, respectively: Europe of convergence, Europe of safety, Europe - global actor and Europe of common values. Prime Minister underlined that all projects considered in this context have at their core the principle of cohesion, which prompted the motto: 'Cohesion, a common European value'. During the meeting, the dignitaries exchanged views on the main topics on the European agenda.

Prime Minister of Romania also reiterated our country's objective to join the Schengen area, underlining the fact that all the technical conditions necessary to accession were long met.

The French Minister -delegate for European Affairs reviewed France's interest in the completion of auctions in the naval defence field, as well as in the projects that France promotes in the field of anti-aircraft system, helicopter manufacture and in the civil nuclear field.

The discussions also addressed the topic of amending the justice laws, as well as the topic pertaining to the infringement of human rights. There was also an exchange of views on the topic of fake news, the need to promote the fight against online disinformation being highlighted in this context.
