NOPD Makes Quick Arrest of Suspect in Homicide Investigation

The NOPD has arrested Reginald J. Batiste (black male, DOB: 04-04-1987) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on May 5, 2024, in the 500 block of Bienville Street.

At about 8:38 p.m., NOPD Eighth District officers patrolling in the area responded to hearing gunfire. Upon arrival, the officers found an unknonwn male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS declared the victim deceased on scene. A subject seen fleeing the scene on foot was detained after a short foot pursuit for further questioning.

As the investigation progressed, the detained subject - later identified as Batiste - was determined to be the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant for Batiste on one count of second-degree murder. Batiste was subsequently arrested and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will officially identify the victim and determine cause of death upon completion of autopsy.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
