President Eighmy shares condolences, resources with the UTSA community

MAY 7, 2024 -Editor's note: The following message was sent today via email from President Taylor Eighmy to all faculty, staff and students:

I am deeply saddened to share that we lost a member of our community yesterday, likely by suicide. Our hearts are broken for this student, his family and all who knew and loved him. A loss like this is so painful and, when unexpected, can feel even more confusing.

Please know we are supporting his family and closest friends, as well as those directly impacted, including our first responders. They are receiving necessary care and will continue to do so as they navigate this immense loss.

Our entire community is feeling a sense of pain and grief, especially those who knew him best, and we know this impacts us all in very different ways. The well-being of every student, staff and faculty member is of the utmost importance, and we are here for each of you - in any way you want or need to receive support.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please know that it's okay not to be okay. You are not alone, and support is available. I strongly urge you to lean into our Roadrunner community and use the free resources available to you:

Again, please know that as you help one another, we will continue our work with those affected and with our broader community to advance well-being across our campuses.

Even in the saddest times, our community can draw strength from one another. Continue to extend kindness and compassion to your fellow Roadrunners as we try to work through this very difficult time.
