New edition of DLA Customer Assistance Handbook available

FORT BELVOIR, Va. -

Digital and hardcopy versions of the Defense Logistics Agency's updated Customer Assistance Handbook are available. The handbook provides contacts for DLA's supply chains and services as well as information on how to access ordering systems and more.

DLA Logistics Operations started updating the handbook in June 2022 and involved agencywide content owners to include information most important for warfighters.

The handbook's online version offers a search function to help users quickly find the information they need, and the hardcopy version is often used by customers working away from their computers.

"The handbook is a handy tool with crucial supply, distribution and transportation data that helps us do our jobs of keeping aircraft maintenance personnel informed of flow of aircraft parts," said Robin Williams, a customer support representative who uses the handbook while working with aircraft maintainers at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

The handbook features key sections to help users easily navigate through various sections, and users can also customize their books by adding tabs to sections they use frequently. CSR John Latour instructs students in the Material Readiness Training Course to use the handbook as a desktop reference for researching supply codes and directives.

DLA CSR Amos Moses, who works with Marines at Camp Pendleton, California, said his customers "always mention how they can search to get the right information and download it as a PDF and cut sections out to make different files or research just the information they need."

The editing team distributed some of the first copies in April to customers at the DLA Supply Chain Alliance and Exhibition in Columbus, Ohio. Others have been shipped to CSRs throughout the continental United States for distribution to service logisticians.

DLA CSR Daren Campbell called the handbook a critical reference tool for service logistics and supply schools. He supports Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

"Having the DLA handbook available in the classroom helps to link the warfighters to DLA early in their career," he said.

Keeping DLA at the forefront of customers' minds regarding logistics is essential for maintaining competitiveness and meeting their needs effectively, Campbell added.

The Controlled Unclassified Information classification was removed from the book to streamline access for contractors working with the DLA. All users are encouraged to download the handbook rather than order physical copies.
