By the End of 2021, the Tolmachevo Airport Has Achieved a New Record in Passenger and Cargo Traffic

By the end of 2021, the Tolmachevo Airport has served a record number of passengers, which is equal to 6,761 million passengers. This is 0.2% more than in pre-crisis 2019, when 6,747 million passengers had been served.

The number of passengers on domestic flights (DF) increased by 23.3% by 2019 and amounted to 6.046 million passengers.

The most popular destinations in 2021 were Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Krasnodar, Yakutsk, Yekaterinburg, Khabarovsk.

The largest growth in passenger traffic in 2021 by 2019 was shown by such domestic destinations as: Ufa (+175.3%), Novokuznetsk (+152.9%), Anapa (+123.3%), Voronezh (+116.7%), Sochi (+112.7%), Rostov-on-Don (+87.7%), Kazan (+80.3%), Bratsk (+78.3%) and Ulan-Ude (+78.1%).

During 2021, with the support of the government of the Novosibirsk region, S7 Airlines launched regular flights to such new destinations as Izhevsk, Makhachkala and Tobolsk in implementation of the programme for subsidising interregional air transportation under Russian Government Resolution No. 1242 of 25 December 2014. S7 Airlines also opened direct scheduled flights to Gelendzhik.

715 thousand passengers have been served on international flights (IF) (-61.2% by 2019). The most popular were Antalya, Larnaca, Dubai, Cairo, Zanzibar, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh.

Turkish destinations (Antalya, Istanbul and Bodrum) showed a strong recovery of passenger traffic, it means that the growth by 2019 was +7.3%, while such destinations as Dubai (-10.8%) and Larnaca (-13.5%) practically recovered their pre-crisis volumes: Dubai (-10.8%) and Larnaca (-13.5%). There was also an active recovery in the directions of the Near Abroad. Since November 2021, regular flights to Thailand (Phuket and Bangkok) have been resumed with limited frequency as part of the current restrictions to prevent the spread of a new coronavirus infection Covid-19.

New destinations on the international route network to Far Abroad in 2021 are Male, La Romana, Punta Cana, Ras Al Khaimah, Bodrum, Paphos, Sharjah, Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Cairo. Flights were also opened to new cities of the Near Abroad - Kurgan-Tube, Karshi, Navoi, Samarkand, Kulyab, and Andijan.

In 2021, the growth in traffic volumes was associated with an increase in the flight programme of the base carrier S7 Airlines (the route network of the airline's domestic destinations increased from 52 to 56 in 2020). In addition, the increase in passenger air traffic by 2019 was shown by such airlines as: Smartavia, Aeroflot, Pobeda, IrAero, Azimut.

In 2021, new airlines began to operate regular flights from the Tolmachevo Airport, which are Flydubai (Dubai), Flyaristan (Nur-Sultan), Qazaq Air (Nur-Sultan).

In 2021, the Tolmachevo airport has served 2.020 million transfer passengers, their share in the total passenger traffic has been 30%.

In 2021, cargo flights through Tolmachevo Airport were operated by such cargo airlines as Aviastar-TU, Cargolux, Cargolux Italia, Sky Gates Airlines, Atran and others. Since May 2021, the first commercial flights of the new foreign cargo airline SF Airlines (PRC) have begun. Since February 2021, S7 Airlines has started its own commercial air cargo transportation program on B-737BCF aircraft.

In the twelve months of 2021, the airport handled 36,083 aircraft departures (+8.7% compared to the same period in 2019).

In 2021, the cargo traffic amounted to 35,111 tons (+2.9% compared to the previous year), which is also a record value and exceeds the figures of previous years.
