Sex Offender Pleads Guilty for Approaching Juveniles in Town of Clarence and Failure to Register His Address

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that 72-year-old John E. Dziedzic pleaded guilty this morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of Failure to Register and/or Verify as a Sex Offender (Class "E" felony under New York Corrections Law) and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class "A" misdemeanors). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest count in the indictment against him.

On Monday, October 9, 2023, New York State Police troopers responded to a complaint of a suspicious person at a motel on the 900 block of Main Street in the Town of Clarence. The defendant approached two juveniles and offered them marijuana to come to his motel room. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the defendant had failed to register as a sex offender by not updating his address on a form issued by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. The next day, the defendant was arraigned in Clarence Town Court and remanded due to his prior felony convictions.

Dziedzic faces a maximum of 4 years in prison when he is sentenced on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. He remains held without bail.

Acting DA Keane commends the New York State Police Criminal Investigation Bureau, Department of Corrections and Community Supervision parole officers and the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rachel Kranitz McPhee of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.
