UNESCO coordinates GEO4CIVHIC’s World Heritage Ferrara demo site

The restoration of Porta degli Angeli, a historical building in Ferrara, City of the Renaissance and Italian UNESCO World Heritage Site, finally kicked off and is making significant progress. The demo site, coordinated by the UNESCO Regional Bureau with R.E.D. srl , within the framework of GEO4CIVHIC provides most easy, efficient and low cost geothermal systems for retrofitting civil and historical buildings. The project is funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No. 792355.

The main goal of GEO4CIVHIC is to develop and accelerate the implementation of efficient and easy to install shallow geothermal energy systems such as innovative Ground Source Heat Exchangers and Pumps (GSHE, GSHP) for retrofitting inadequate heating and cooling systems in historical and residential buildings. The project promotes innovative solutions and uses state of the art compact drilling machines developed by an international expert group of companies and research centres.
