Women's volleyball splits second day of Rowan Invitational

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the second day of the Rowan Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions opened the day with a 3-1 victory over Ursinus College, but fell by a score of 3-0 to host Rowan in the final match of the day.

In the win over Ursinus, the Nittany Lions (3-4) won each of the first two games by scores of 25-20. The Bears (2-5) squeezed out a 25-23 win in the third set, but Berks closed out the match with a 25-16 triumph in the fourth.

had a team-high 12 kills, while also recording eight digs, three service aces, two total blocks, and two assists. chipped in 10 kills and tied for the team-lead with four aces. added nine kills, followed by with eight and with seven. notched a contest-high 24 digs, while had 17 and Dwyer followed with 16. tied Dwyer with a team-best four aces and the Nittany Lions combined for 12 as a team. Rathsam dished out a season-high 36 assists in the winning effort.

The Profs (5-2) claimed a pair of tight wins in the first two sets, winning 25-23 and 25-22, before closing out the match with a 25-16 win in the third.

Barna was again the team-leader in kills as she recorded nine, followed by Carr with eight and Dwyer with six. Wojciechowski recorded a game-high 20 digs, followed by Dwyer with 17 and Eckel with 12. Rathsam handed out 28 assists and had eight digs. Barna recorded a team-high three aces and Rathsam followed with two.

Eckel was named to the All-Tournament Team after turning in a couple of stellar performances. The outside hitter recorded 18 kills, 31 digs, two block assists, and two assists in the four games combined.

The Nittany Lions return at action with a non-conference match at Delaware Valley University on Thursday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
