City Seeks Community Input at Upcoming Citizen Police Complaint Commission Meeting

Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is inviting the public to attend an upcoming virtual Citizen Police Complaint Commission (CPCC) meeting, where preliminary recommendations for CPCC reform will be presented and community members will have the opportunity to provide their input on those recommendations. The virtual meeting will take place Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, at 6 p.m.

The meeting will include a presentation of the preliminary CPCC evaluation report, comprised of feedback collected from the CPCC evaluation survey, community listening sessions, stakeholder interviews and a benchmark study conducted across the State and nation. The meeting will also provide an overview of the proposed recommendations for CPCC reform based on the preliminary report. Attending community members will have the opportunity to provide their input on the proposed preliminary recommendations during an open forum at the conclusion of the presentation.

Those interested in attending must register in order to receive the link to virtually attend the meeting. Registration is available online and will remain open until the end of the meeting. Registration is available in English, Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog. Language translation will also be provided live during the meeting.

The additional community input provided during the meeting will be reviewed and used for the final evaluation report and recommendations. The final report is expected to be presented to the Long Beach City Council in January 2022.

Redesigning the police approach to community safety in Long Beach, including police oversight and accountability which the CPCC conducts, originated from the City's Racial Equity and Reconciliation Initiative. The City Council approved funding for the CPCC evaluation last year as part of the City's adopted FY 21 Budget.

The CPCC is a City chartered commission established to provide feedback and input to the City Manager, Mayor and City Council regarding allegations of police misconduct from the Long Beach Police Department. The CPCC continues to evolve its practices and procedures and enhance efficiencies while maintaining the integrity of operations and trust from city partners and the community. More information about the CPCC is available on their website.
