Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Christian Lindner, Federal Minister of Finance, Germany

WASHINGTON, March 9 - Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass spoke with Christian Lindner, German Federal Minister of Finance.

President Malpass affirmed to Minister Lindner the World Bank Group's (WBG) work to support Germany's G7 Presidency and the importance of continued close cooperation between Germany and the WBG.

President Malpass and Minister Lindner discussed the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its impact on the economy through higher commodity and energy prices and food insecurity. President Malpass shared with Minister Lindner details of the World Bank's support for Ukraine and encouraged coordination of development assistance for the Ukrainian people.

President Malpass emphasized the importance of increasing supply and lifting constraints on production to address losses in global supply. President Malpass and Minister Lindner also discussed the importance of avoiding export restrictions, hoarding, and price controls, which misallocate supply.

President Malpass and Minister Lindner discussed the importance of strengthening global health systems, challenges in climate finance, and critical debt issues, including reducing debt burdens and promoting greater debt transparency.
