Israel/Palestinian Territories (16 April 2024)

France utterly condemns the settler violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank. These coordinated armed attacks carried out in the presence of the Israeli army have already caused the death of four Palestinian civilians. These acts are unacceptable.

This violence comes following the death of a young Israeli in the West Bank. France condemns his murder, which can in no way justify the violence.

France calls on the Israeli authorities to immediately bring the perpetrators of this violence to justice and to guarantee the permanent protection of all civilians in accordance with Israel's obligations under international law. This violence is the consequence of the continued settlement policy, which inflames tensions and constitutes a serious violation of international law, specifically UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and the Fourth Geneva Convention. Some of these actions are also likely to be covered by the Rome Statute. France, which has already adopted measures against violent settlers, is considering new measures, in liaison with its partners.
