PPB In Negotiations With Armed Suspect

Police are negotiating with a menacing suspect in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood, who is believed to be armed, prompting a callout of the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT).

On Sunday, May 22nd, 2022, at 9:03 a.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to an accident involving two vehicles in the 12900 block of Southeast Division Street. One driver called into dispatch and said the other driver had a gun and was sitting inside of his car.

Officers arrived and learned the suspect pointed the gun at the other driver and then put the gun to his own head. Since the suspect was armed and refusing to exit his vehicle, the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were called to assist.

During this incident Southeast Division Street from Southeast 125th Avenue to Southeast 136th Avenue. The PIO is responding to the scene. Additional information will be shared when available.
