Calici di Stelle at Donnafugata: nights of wine, music, and art

A moonlit calendar of events in the five Donnafugata Estates.
Great event on August 10th at Contessa Entellina with the extraordinary "Voguing Night". At Pantelleria, Marsala, Etna and Vittoria, refined wine-food combinations, and guided observation of the stars.

It will be a memorable "Calici di Stelle" (Goblets of stars), that of 2022 at Donnafugata. The edition of the return to full conviviality deserved to be celebrated in grand style. Reason why, for the first time, the Sicilian winery decided to open all their Estates for the most eagerly-awaited event of the summer. Five scheduled events: July 29th at Pantelleria, August 3rd at the Historic Cellars in Marsala, August 6th at the Vittoria Estate in Acate and August 12th on Etna, in Randazzo.

At the center of this calendar of events, on August 10th at Contessa Entellina, the highlight of Calici di Stelle will be "The Night of Voguing". Donnafugata has been celebrating the encounter of wine with art for years, and for the first time in Sicily the event will see a performance conceived of by Lidia Carew - dancer, actress and performer -, with the artistic direction of La B. Fujiko, pioneer of the ballroom scene in Italy.

Voguing is part of the ballroom scene, born in New York in the 1970s-80s within the black and Latin LGBTQIA + community, to offer a safe space where people were free to express themselves and live their identity/orientation openly as opposed to the real life, in a judgmental and often violent society. The scene has now spread all over the world and become popular thanks to Pose, Legendary, and viral videos on IG and TikTok.

With the voguing at Donnafugata, together with the great scheduled tasting, you will live the experience of an out-of-the-ordinary night that celebrates freedom of expression and represents the pioneering vision of the company in an original way: innovative and always with an eye towards the future.

Creatures of the show dressed in costumes inspired by the colors of Donnafugata and surrounded by the music of an exceptional DJ set, will take the stage, and pay homage to the guests with a performance of color, liveliness, and life, through an unmistakable and iconic dance. In the vineyards and the garden of the Estate, these "imaginative creatures" will entertain visitors and enchant them with a special show in the olive grove of the Estate.

"Calici di Stelle" at Donnafugata is back in style, involving all its estates, with a great event at Contessa Entellina - explains José Rallo, owner of the company together with her brother Antonio -, in the wake of a more than twenty-year-old tradition. The dialogue with wine will be voguing, where music and expressive plasticity of moving bodies manage to make an extraordinary, enthralling, out-of-the-ordinary performance of high artistic value."

No less extraordinary is the wine tasting that involves the entire production, from Etna to Pantelleria, from Acate to Contessa Entellina. Great wines, expressions of a tailor-made style of production recognized throughout the world. From the iconic wines Mille e una Notte and Ben Ryè, to the collection created in partnership with Dolce & Gabbana. There will be some rare vintages, bottles of extraordinary importance, chosen by Antonio Rallo for the occasion.

Through the events of Calici di Stelle, wine lovers will be able to take a "Journey around Sicily" in the extraordinary places of Donnafugata. The formula adopted on the other Estates is picturesque and intimate: it offers evening tastings, starting at 8:30 pm - one for each estate - where refined food-wine combinations pair up with an exclusive atmosphere.

The experience opens with a welcome glass, to be sipped while listening to the music of Donnafugata Music & Wine's 3rd album "Rebirth" in the background and continues with 5 different pairings with as many wines. In closure, a sweet and persuasive toast with Ben Ryé, under the stars, to honor this year's theme proposed by the Wine Tourism Movement: eno-astronomy. At the end of the evening, the experts of Astronomitaly will guide guests to discover the wonders of the starry sky and the constellations typical of the summer period: from the rings of Saturn to the double stars, from the very bright and white Vega to the red Antares, up to the Ring Nebula.
