California-based semiconductor company Lam Research Corporation is gearing up to develop products and provide dedicated supply chain operations to support its new factory operations in Malaysia. In line with that the company is making significant hires in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region with Malaysia witnessing significant job listings. Hiring shows that the company is overseeing transportation of manufacturing supplies, customer spare parts, and finished products within Asia, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData's Job Analytics Database reveals that jobs posted in Malaysia increased from 18 in July 2020 to 199 in July 2021*. Between July 2020 and July 2021*, the company listed 1,453 jobs while over 1,200 jobs were posted in 2021 alone.

Ajay Thalluri, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, says: 'The US-based company announced in early February 2020 about plans to expand operations of advanced technology production facility in Malaysia. After over a year, the company is ramping up hires for Lam Manufacturing Malaysia (LMM) to support operations and strengthen trade activity.'

Over 50% of job listings between January and July 2021 are for engineers and technologists in Malaysia. Interestingly, around 25% of total job postings in Malaysia during the period have direct reference to supply chain management. Lam Research is building a new manufacturing site in Malaysia to supply wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) and services through a large team of supply chain professionals.

Lam Research is supporting supply chain efforts for monitoring and tracking company-owned inventory at offsite locations, 'Finance Manufacturing Costing Specialist' shows. 'Director, Order Fulfilment Management' role highlights that it is also optimizing factory resources to overcome supply chain constraints.

The WFE provider is also increasing hires for trade administration to ensure coordination and logistics of shipment. 'Trade Operation Director' role shows that the company is managing all trade transactions by promoting compliance with Malaysian customs and agency regulations. 'LMM Logistics Ground Transportation' listing points at the company's plans to handle third-party warehousing and shipping activities for maximizing compliance within customer needs and budget constraints.

Mr Thalluri concludes: 'Going by Lam Research's hiring trend in Malaysia, job postings could continue to increase with operations for its new manufacturing facility gaining pace. Additionally, the company may likely boost hires in different APAC countries as the company plans to manage talent acquisition and management activities. Recently, it listed 'Director, APAC Talent Leader' to implement global RPO partnership across each country in APAC region.'
