Updated Investment Scam Alert Involving Unauthorised Use of PETRONAS and Its CEO's Name

PETRONAS has been made aware of multiple occasions of unauthorised and fraudulent use of our company name and logo, as well as the name of our President and Group CEO, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik.

Many of these incidents involve the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) software to impersonate PETRONAS officials, typically by altering and manipulating their image and voice.

Such manipulated images, which are circulated on the internet particularly on social media platforms, are being used to convey untrue messages, some with the intent of manipulating the public to participate in scams and non-existent investment schemes.

Reports to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have been lodged with regard to these instances of misuse.

PETRONAS wishes to urge the public to be on high alert and heighten scrutiny, and rely only on PETRONAS' official communication channels for information.
