Biographies of newly appointed and renewed Social Security Tribunal members
Christianna Scott - Montréal, Quebec
Christianna Scott is an accomplished bilingual senior labour and employment lawyer. She has over 18 years of advisory and advocacy work in the field of human resources, human rights, privacy and labour relations management, most prominently at Air Canada. Ms. Scott holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the Université de Montréal and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Queen's University. She has been a member of the Quebec Bar Association since 1998.
Ms. Scott has been appointed as a full-time member of the Employment Insurance section for a term of three years, effective October 22, 2018.
Mark Leonard - Lowbanks, Ontario
Mark Leonard retired from the federal public service in 2016 after over 35 years of service, more recently as the Director of the Outports and Postal Operations District for the Canada Border Services Agency. He is a former vice-president of the Customs Excise Union Douanes Accise and former president of the Mohawk Heights Estates Association. Mr. Leonard holds a Certificate in Management designation from the Canadian Institute of Management.
Mr. Leonard has been appointed as a part-time member of the Employment Insurance section for a term of two years, effective September 7, 2018.
Gregory D. Walton - Orillia, Ontario
Gregory D. Walton is longstanding law enforcement agent with over three decades of expertise and authority in police misconduct, organized crime, and criminal investigations. He currently serves as Superintendent of the Ontario Provincial Police Force Adjudicator.
Mr. Walton has been appointed as a part-time member of the Employment Insurance section for a term of two years, effective September 7, 2018.
Maria Marchese - Woodbridge, Ontario
Maria Marchese has been a part-time member of the General Division, Employment Insurance Section, of the Social Security Tribunal of Canada since 2016. She is responsible for hearing appeals from decisions rendered by the Canada Employment Insurance Commission and providing written decisions based on analytical evaluation of evidence and strong knowledge of the Employment Insurance Act and the Employment Insurance Regulations.
In addition to her current position with the Tribunal, Ms. Marchese is a locally-elected School Board Trustee with the York Catholic District School Board and advocates for her community regarding publically funded education. Previously, Ms. Marchese held a position with the Employment Insurance Board of Referees where she heard EI appeals of decisions rendered by the Employment Insurance Commission.
Ms. Marchese has been reappointed as a part-time member of the Employment Insurance section for a term of two years, effective September 12, 2018.
Paul Dusome - Barrie, Ontario
Paul Dusome has been a part-time member of the General Division, Employment Insurance Section, of the Social Security Tribunal of Canada since 2016 conducting hearings of appeals and writing decisions. Mr. Dusome is a practicing lawyer, adjudicator and small claims court judge, with 19 years of legal aid clinic experience and seven years in legal publishing.
Mr. Dusome holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Laws from Queen's University and a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School. He has been a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario since 1979.
Mr. Dusome has been reappointed as a part-time member of the Employment Insurance section for a term of two years, effective September 12, 2018.
