Minister participates in UNESCO meeting

Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi participated in virtual UNESCO meeting under the theme: (One year into COVID: Prioritizing education recovery to avoid a generational catastrophe). Officials concerned with the education sector from more than 170 countries participated in the event. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations Organization, delivered a speech in which he referred to the negative impact of this pandemic on the education sector in the world, which contributed to the failure of millions of students to obtain their right to education, calling on countries to keep educational institutions fully or partially open to ensure everyone has access to education. Minister Al Nuaimi praised the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the educational process and its development, pointing out to the visual speech that His Majesty gave to the workers in the educational field and students at the beginning of the pandemic, during which he emphasized the continuation of distance education in these exceptional circumstances. In its report presented during the meeting, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) praised Bahrain's achievements in providing education for all during the pandemic, including students with special needs, by adopting a distance learning mechanism and urging students to use digital devices and provide people with limited income with these devices, with a combination of flexibility in operating electronic services and a focus on digital multimedia solutions. The meeting called on equality in education, investing in developing and achieving the quality of digital technologies, the importance of recovering school systems after the pandemic period, ensuring the safe return of students upon reopening schools, meeting the needs of students and their parents through the services provided to them in the coming period, and adopting multiple strategies for dealing with emergency situations, with a focus on priorities properly.
