Solomon Airlines adds more flights ready for peak season

Solomon Airlines is urging would-be travellers to 'book early for Christmas' as the airline also announces a new peak season domestic schedule, with extra flight options to Munda, Gizo and Auki to cater for demand.

Under the new schedule, effective from 1 November 2021 to 16 January 2022, the current Monday service from Honiara via Kirakira to Auki, will be replaced with a non-stop Honiara-Auki flight in both directions, in addition to the direct service operating in both directions between Honiara and Kirakira.

Effective from 11 December 2021 until 16 January 2022, Solomon Airlines will also re-commence with daily operations on Munda and Gizo routes, with new Sunday afternoon direct flights introduced between Honiara and Gizo, and between Honiara and Munda.

"We are encouraging people to start making their Christmas plans and flight bookings early, so as not to be disappointed, and you may even be able to secure a 21-day advance purchase fare offering a 20% discount depending on your dates," said Colin Sigimanu, Commercial Manager for Solomon Airlines.

"Solomon Airlines reviews its domestic schedule quarterly to provide best possible service based on demand, seasonality and operating environments," he said.

"In readiness for the Christmas holidays period, we have increased flight frequencies on key routes to cater for a greater number of leisure travellers, and to allow for returning to Honiara before the start of the working week, however, we know there is very strong demand, especially this year," he said.

"We recommend that those planning to travel at Christmas and New Year make their travel bookings as swiftly as they can because even the additional flights are likely to sell out fast," he said.

"Additional capacity has been added to Gizo and Munda only to support weekend travel. However, all other ports can be accommodated depending on booking demand. In such cases we will create supplementary flights to cater for additional demand," he added.

Meanwhile, the airline is also planning its schedule for February and March when Solomon Airlines Dash-8 aircraft will be removed from service for scheduled engineering maintenance 'C-check'.

The engineering check is currently scheduled for 5 February to 23 March 2022 and all Dash-8 flights during this period will be replaced with Twin Otter services, subject to final date confirmation.

Solomon Airlines continues to fly to all 23 domestic destinations in their domestic network.
