Released: 6/6/2022 6:00:00 AM

Johnson Scaria, MBA, BSN, BSc has been appointed director of perioperative and procedural business operations at Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute (BGMC/GVI).

In this role, effective June 5, Johnson will work with the perioperative and procedural departmental leaders to improve efficiencies in the delivery of patient care services, focusing on new strategic opportunities, contracts and resources (supplies and equipment). He will work in collaboration with the physicians and service line leaders to plan and implement opportunities for improvement along with new initiatives. Johnson will work with vendors and providers to optimize the use of scarce resources, including supplies, equipment, new technology, etc. He will make strategic recommendations for growth and new ventures.

Johnson most recently served as director of cardiovascular and neuro endovascular services at BGMC/GVI. In that role, which will not be refilled, he showed remarkable success in the development of new technologies and procedural growth in the procedure labs over the last 10 years. He will use his expertise to build the same in the BGMC/GVI surgical services.

With Johnson's appointment come changes in the current reporting structure. The VIS and procedure labs will now report to Lorie Mariano, vice president of hospital operations; the CVICU and NSICU/4N/14 will now report to Chris Moden, director of critical care and nursing operations; and the 10th floor will now report to Cassie Grefrath, director of nursing.

Johnson received a B.S. in Nursing and Bachelor of Life Science from McMaster University and his MBA with a concentration in health care from the University of Phoenix.
